Tips on Preserving Your Wedding Flowers

You have done all the organizing, the day is shortly arriving and the florist Jersey Shore based or where you are) was perfect, delivering all the arrangements and wedding bouquets just how you wanted. But now what do you do with the flowers to keep them in great condition for the next few hours? How do you make sure you get the most for your money so your wedding flowers can be enjoyed for as long as possible? Here are some tips on looking after the flowers and maximizing their longevity.

It is a sad fact that some couples arrive for their wedding to find flowers already wilting and that is especially true when conditions are not great for freshly cut flowers to thrive. Wedding bouquets Toms River and elsewhere need someone to look after them until the time of the actual service arrives. In some cases, florists will include that in their deal, some will offer it but at an extra charge, but some provide the flowers and then leave. So you need to assign somebody to look after them. These tips are also great for after the wedding when you and guests might want to enjoy them still.

  • First of all, inspect the flowers and make sure the buds are somewhat firm, that there are no damaged stems and there is no discoloration. Discard any that look slimy or are looking discolored. Also, remove any wilting foliage, and take out any leaves that are yellowing. Your florist NJ and elsewhere should have done this but some damage may have occurred when being transported.
  • The flowers will need to go in vases or vessels until needed. These containers need to be sterilized and washed well after with hot water. When dry put in sterilized water and add in a floral preservative or food to it.
  • Now top up with room temperature water until the container is two thirds full. Add in the flowers including the wedding bouquets Toms River created or where you are. Then add more room temperature water until there is just an inch left till the top.
  • To judge you have the right sized vessel, the flowers should one and a half times the height of the container or vase.
  • If you are cutting the flowers cut at a 45-degree angle as they better absorb water. Cut under running water so that air does not enter the stem and make sure you are using a proper flower knife or pair of shears. Blunt blades will cause damage.
  • If any leaves are below the water line remove them as decaying matter contaminates the water and therefore shortens the life of the flowers.
  • The water and food will need to be changed and replaced every 24 hours.
  • Avoid direct sun and any drafts and keep in a room that is cool but not cold.
  • Later as they age remove any parts that are dying.

When looked after the flowers can last for a good 10 days after the wedding!
